Fish and Chips / Takeaway
Literally next door to Big Isle Retreat. The General Store does solid fish and chips, burgers and all-day takeaway. It is our go-to for a lazy night when nobody wants to cook. Nothing fancy, just reliable food you can grab in your thongs and be home before it gets cold.

Fusion / Cafe
A Cowes favourite for breakfast and lunch. Mon Dieu does a mix of fusion dishes with good coffee and a relaxed vibe. The menu changes seasonally and the portions are generous. It fills up on weekends, so aim for an early start or be ready to wait.

Cafe / Modern Australian
One of the best cafes on the island. Waterboy does excellent coffee and a well-executed brunch menu with local ingredients. The vibe is laid-back coastal, the staff are friendly, and dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area. A genuine local favourite.

Italian
Classic Italian on the Cowes main street. Isola Di Capri has been here for years and does reliable pasta, pizza, chicken parma and all the favourites. It is not trying to reinvent the wheel, it is just doing the classics well. Good for families and groups who want a sit-down dinner without the fuss.

Pub Food / Modern Australian
The local pub on the Cowes waterfront. North Pier does standard pub fare with a kids' play area, which makes it a solid family option. The beer garden has water views and it is one of the few places on the island open later in the evening. Not the best food on the island, but convenient and the atmosphere is good.

Italian
A more intimate Italian option in Cowes. Pino's is dinner only and does a focused menu of Italian classics done well. The atmosphere is warm, the wine list is solid, and it feels like a proper night out without leaving town. A good choice for couples or a group dinner.

Cafe / Modern Australian
A short drive from Cowes, The Store is one of the best cafes on Phillip Island. It focuses on local and seasonal produce, the coffee is excellent, and the space is light and welcoming. It closes around 3pm, so it is strictly a daytime spot. Worth the drive for a special breakfast or long lunch.

Brewery / Pub Food
Phillip Island's craft brewery, set in a big warehouse-style space with a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. The house-brewed beers are good, the food menu covers burgers, pizzas and pub classics, and there is enough space that even a large group can find a table without booking.

Australian / Local Produce
A working vineyard with a restaurant that sources heavily from the island and Gippsland region. The food is a step above most places on the island and the setting is beautiful. They even have a dog menu. Wine tasting is available and the cool-climate wines are worth trying.

Modern Australian / Wood-fired Pizza
At San Remo, just before you cross the bridge onto the island. Saltwater sits on the waterfront with views across to Phillip Island and does modern Australian with excellent wood-fired pizzas. It is a good option for your first or last meal on the way through, and the views at sunset are worth the drive.
